$If you have seen my last post, you know more than 100 scientists worldwide (from different fields) have issued a statement that reusables are still safe to use even in this pandemic (source @guardian). • I know many municipalities or higher political levels in many countries have banned them during this pandemic. We are very lucky German authorities have not given in to at least this one fear. • So use this piece of information to talk to your local businesses, or email or call the office of your local councils. • Repost @get.waste.ed 💚—thanks so much! ・・・ Big Plastic is pushing the agenda that single-use products stop the spread of covid, but 125 health experts are pushing back. They say that reusable bags, containers and cups are perfectly safe when washed with hot water and soap. The best way to stay safe is to properly sanitize any surface, whether it\'s reusable or disposable! If you\'re able to bring reusable bags to your shops, go for it! If not, you can still reduce the amount of packaging by keeping bags in your trunk so you can bag groceries yourself at your car. $🤔 Is it safe to bring your own containers to buy food even now? TLDR: Scientists say it is! Because the virus is spread by PEOPLE, not things or food. • According to a @guardian article published today, more than 100 scientists will sign a statement to reassure the public that, yes reusable containers are safe during these troubled times. Thank you so much @bhaywood23 for sending me the article 💚!! • “Scientists’ advice for consumers is to wash reusable containers thoroughly with hot water and detergent or soap.\" (🔗 to the article in 👉 my bio) Yes, that is actually all it takes. Plus the usual corona regulations/recommendations we all know by heart by now (hopefully!!): * keep a physical distance of 2m/6ft to one another * wash your hands regularly and thoroughly 🧼 * wear a mask 😷 * sneeze or cough into your elbow, not your hands 🚫✋ • I have also written an article for my German-speaking audience with tips on how to try to convince shops to let you bring your own containers in accordance with German health & hygiene regulations (👉 also linked in my bio).$
$🩸 It’s #MenstrualHygieneDay, folks 😁🍓🎉✨!! So it’s time for a #PeriodTalk, woohoo!! (Will make another post on ZW menstrual products later! 👉 Check bio for my 2 videos on ZW menstruation and a Period Talk with @gittemary @nhile_de and @kulmine_bewusst_natuerlich 😁💕!!) • For about half of the population, menstruation is, has been, or will be part of their daily life. So something super normal 🤷. While for the other half, it’s oftentimes a complete mystery 👽😅. • Whenever Hanno (my partner in crime) and I talk about #zerowaste in schools (grade 5 upwards), we always speak about menstruation and also contraception 😈! (Of course we ask the teachers in advance 😉) Whenever it comes up, we also talk to \"grown ups” about these things. • And you know what? Many have never heard of options beyond tampons + pads (when it comes to menstruation), or condoms + birth control pill (when it comes to contraception)!! Why? Because we don’t talk about it, and sadly, many doctors will not tell you about the other options unless you ask! • 🩸 MY PERIOD EXPERIENCE🩸 I got my 1st period on Dec 12 when I was 12 years old 😂! I’ve always been super open about this, probably because my ma never made a big deal out of it. It was just part of our daily life! Glad she handled it this way!! ❣️ • Well, my father never wanted me to talk about my period 🙄, so I made him get tampons and pads for me 👻. • Back in high school 🏫, I used to sit in class with a #HotWaterBottle in my lap whenever I had cramps. Never thought it was something I had to hide or be ashamed of, really. (I went to boarding school, which made it an option logistically lol 😉) • I have also been open to Hanno about my period from the get go. He’s never been weirded out and has always been supportive: making me tea or a hot water bottle when I had cramps, buying tampons for me (back when I still used them), and even washing my cloth pads later. • What’s your period story?
